Questions
Frequently asked questions.
What Spike does, what it costs, and where it draws the line.

The basics
What Spike is.
Spike is a specialized AI that guides you through the entire college application. It finds opportunities that fit your interests and helps you write about them in your activities and essays.
ChatGPT talks about college. Spike keeps your file: colleges, deadlines, activities, drafts. It checks every requirement against the school’s own site, and keeps working between conversations.
Grades 9 through 12. Earlier years lean toward exploring interests and building a profile. Later years lean toward the college list, essays and deadlines.
No. Spike learns about you through conversation, and asks follow-up questions when the moment makes sense. You can edit anything it has recorded about you.
Yes. Spike runs in your browser, on a laptop or a phone.
Using Spike
How Spike helps.
No. It helps you find the idea, outline it and revise your draft. The words stay yours. Colleges ask you not to submit AI-written work, and it tends to read as hollow anyway.
It compares what it knows about you against verified data on the colleges in its database. Then it explains its reasoning school by school. You get reach, target and likely schools with a reason attached to each one.
It gives you an honest range, based on where your numbers land against a school’s admitted class. That range is an input to your decision, not a prediction. Anyone offering a precise percentage is guessing.
Yes. The free tools run entirely in your browser, with no account and nothing uploaded. That includes the chances calculator, GPA calculator, SAI aid calculator and the AI essay checker.
Spike tracks application deadlines, test dates and the tasks attached to them. It works backward from each date, so the work doesn’t pile up at the end.
Counselors and schools
For counselors and schools.
No, it complements them. Most school counselors carry hundreds of students. Spike handles the day-to-day questions between meetings, so in-person time can go to the decisions that need a person.
No. Colleges don’t pay to be recommended by Spike, and student profiles aren’t used to put anyone into a recruiting funnel.
Email schools@get-spike.com with a little about your students and your program. The first step is a conversation.
Plans and privacy
Cost, data, and limits.
Free to start, which covers browsing colleges, building your profile and chat with Spike. Spike Pro is $39 a month for the full counselor. A private counselor is usually $3,000 to $10,000 for one application season.
Yes, whenever you choose. You keep access through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Spike uses what you tell it to give you better advice. It does not sell personal information. The privacy policy has the details.
No, and be skeptical of anyone who does. Spike helps you make better decisions and submit a stronger application. Admissions outcomes aren’t something any product can promise.
