What you can expect from Spike, and what Spike expects from you.

Who can use Spike

Spike is built for high school students. You must be at least 13 years old to have an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission to use it. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials to yourself.

What Spike is, and is not

Spike is a guidance tool. It is not a guarantee of admission to any college, and it is not a substitute for your school counselor, a licensed advisor, or professional financial advice.

Spike uses AI, and AI gets things wrong. Deadlines, requirements, costs, and policies change. Verify anything that matters against the college’s own website before you rely on it.

Spike is a computer program, not a person, and it is not a therapist or a mental health service. It is not an emergency service and we cannot monitor conversations in real time. How Spike handles a conversation about self-harm, and where to get real help, is set out on our safety page.

Your work stays yours

Essays, activity descriptions, and everything else you write in Spike belong to you. You grant us only the permission needed to store your work and to operate the features you use.

Academic honesty

Spike is designed to coach your writing, not to write for you. Submitting work you did not write as your own may violate a college’s application rules, and that responsibility is yours.

Using it fairly

Do not share your account, resell access, attempt to break or scrape the service, or use Spike to harass anyone or to break the law.

Plans and payment

Spike is free to start. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually at the price shown before you buy, and they renew automatically at that price until you cancel.

If your plan starts with a free trial, we tell you the length of the trial and the price that follows it before you start. The trial becomes a paid subscription automatically when it ends unless you cancel first.

You can cancel at any time, and you keep access through the period you have already paid for. Subscriptions bought in the app are managed by Apple or Google, so you cancel through your Apple or Google account settings, and refunds are handled under their policies. Spike links you straight to that screen from Settings.

Founding membership

A founding membership is a prepaid subscription bought before Spike is generally available. It is charged in full when you buy it, and it covers twelve months of the Spike Pro plan starting on the day your access begins, not on the day you pay.

We aim to open access to founding members in the window stated at the time of purchase. If we have not given you access within ninety days of that window, you may request a full refund and we will provide one.

You may cancel a founding membership and receive a full refund at any time before your access begins, and for thirty days after it begins. Request it by email from the address you purchased with. After that period the membership runs to the end of its twelve months and does not renew automatically unless you choose a plan.

Ending your account

You can stop using Spike and ask us to delete your account whenever you want. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms.
